Levitra
Levitra is a medication used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). It belongs to a class of drugs called phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors (PDE5 inhibitors). These drugs work by relaxing the muscles in the walls of blood vessels, allowing more blood to flow into the penis. Levitra is available in both brand and generic versions. The brand version is more expensive than the generic version. Levitra may be taken with or without food. It is important to take Levitra exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.
Levitra is used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). Levitra may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.
Important Information
You should not take Levitra if you are allergic to vardenafil, or if you take other medicines to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension, such as riociguat (Adempas).
To make sure Levitra is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have ever had:
- heart disease or a heart rhythm disorder;
- a recent history (in the past 6 months) of a heart attack, stroke, or congestive heart failure;
- angina (chest pain), high or low blood pressure;
- pulmonary hypertension (unless you are also taking vardenafil for this);
- a history of vision problems, including retinitis pigmentosa (an inherited condition of the eye);
- bleeding disorders;
- blood cell problems such as sickle cell anemia, multiple myeloma, or leukemia;
- a stomach ulcer;
- hearing problems;
- liver disease;
- kidney disease; or
- if you have been told you should not have sexual intercourse for health reasons.
Levitra can decrease blood flow to the optic nerve of the eye, causing sudden vision loss. This has occurred in a small number of people, most of whom also had heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or certain pre-existing eye problems, and in those who smoked or were over 50 years old.
It is not clear whether vardenafil is the actual cause of vision loss.
Stop taking vardenafil and get emergency medical help if you have sudden vision loss.
