What is Viagra Super Active?
Viagra Super Active is a generic medication used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). It is a cheaper alternative to the brand-name drug Viagra. Viagra Super Active contains the same active ingredient as Viagra—sildenafil citrate.
Viagra Super Active is a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor. PDE5 inhibitors are a class of drugs used to treat ED. They work by relaxing the blood vessels in the penis, which allows more blood to enter the penis and achieve an erection.
Viagra Super Active is available in 100-mg and 200-mg tablets. The recommended starting dose is 100 mg. If you don’t get the desired results from the 100-mg dose, you can increase your dose to 200 mg. You should not take more than 200 mg in a 24-hour period.
Side Effects
The most common side effects of Viagra Super Active include:
- headache
- flushing
- dizziness
- upset stomach
- nausea
Less common side effects include:
- back pain
- muscle pain
- changes in vision
- ringing in the ears
- skin rash
Viagra Super Active can also cause serious side effects, including:
- an erection that lasts longer than 4 hours (priapism)
- sudden decrease or loss of vision
- sudden decrease or loss of hearing

Interactions

Alcohol
Consuming alcohol with Viagra Super Active can cause low blood pressure, dizziness, and fainting.
Alpha blockers
Alpha blockers are a type of medication used to treat high blood pressure and an enlarged prostate. Taking Viagra Super Active with an alpha blocker can cause your blood pressure to drop suddenly to an unsafe level. You could faint or have a heart attack or stroke.
Examples of alpha blockers include:
- doxazosin (Cardura)
- prazosin (Minipress)
- terazosin (Hytrin)
Nitrates
Nitrates are a type of medication used to treat angina (chest pain). Taking Viagra Super Active with a nitrate medicine can cause a sudden and serious decrease in blood pressure.
Examples of nitrates include:
- isosorbide dinitrate (Dilatrate-SR, Isordil, Sorbitrate)
- isosorbide mononitrate (Imdur, ISMO, Monoket)
- nitroglycerin (Nitrostat, Nitrolingual, Nitro-Dur, Nitro-Bid, and others)
- pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PEPCID)
Ritonavir
Ritonavir is a medication used to treat HIV. Taking Viagra Super Active with ritonavir can cause your blood pressure to drop suddenly to an unsafe level. You could faint or have a heart attack or stroke.
Warnings
Before taking Viagra Super Active, tell your doctor if you have ever had:
- heart disease or a heart attack
- a stroke
- high or low blood pressure
- pulmonary hypertension (unless you are also taking tadalafil [Cialis])
- a blood disorder such as sickle cell anemia, multiple myeloma, or leukemia
- a bleeding disorder such as hemophilia
- a stomach ulcer
- retinitis pigmentosa (an inherited eye condition)
- a physical deformity of the penis (such as Peyronie’s disease)
If you have any of these conditions, you may not be able to take Viagra Super Active, or you may need a dosage adjustment or special tests during treatment.
Viagra Super Active is not expected to be harmful to an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant during treatment.
It is not known whether Viagra Super Active passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
Viagra Super Active is not approved for use by anyone younger than 18 years old.
